Wellness and Spas in the Benelux

Enter a spa in the Benelux and you may never emerge, so blessed out and enchanted you may be by the breadth and quality of services available and the bewitching charm of the chateau you’ll very likely find yourself staying in for the duration. Someone’s got to do it!

We have the town of Spa in Belgium to thank for the name we now use generically for hydrotherapy and all manner of sybaritic treatments we seek in search of health, beauty and wellbeing. The town’s 19th century charm graces the modern day casino, luxury hotels, and an auto race track considered by drivers pilots to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Seacoast towns such as Knokke-Heist and Ostend and towns such as Chaudfontaine – wherever the water is salty or naturally heated and full of minerals – have spas, often in gracious chateaux and often in bucolic settings which are restorative in themselves.

If you seek a relaxing vacation, spiritual rejuvenation, or total mind and body tune-up, there's a place for you in Holland. For example, in dreamlike South Limburg hill country, close to Maastricht, is one of the few places in Holland where you can enjoy the healthy and revitalizing centuries-old underground hot springs. In the richly wooded foothills of the Eifel and the Ardennes, an authentically restored castle dating as far back as 1420 combines the splendor of the past with the comfort and technology of the present. To make the Dutch spa and wellness experience even more unforgettable, stay in a variety of off-the-beaten-path accommodations, such as a medieval castle, an old manor house in the middle of a forest, a convent, mill, a lock keepers house or antique farmhouse.

The most well known spa in Luxembourg is Mondorf-les-Bains, although you’ll find spa facilities in a number of lovely hotels, many of which are located in châteaux and manor houses. Mondorf-les-Bains is a world unto itself, with facilities for every spa treatment imaginable to improve your health and wellbeing. Combine a few days relaxing and rejuvenating at a Luxembourg spa with the great variety of historical and naturally beautiful sites in the jewel-like Grand Duchy, all within an easy day’s drive or less - no stress!
